Tachykinin signaling inhibits task-specific behavioral responsiveness in honeybee workers

چکیده
Behavioral specialization is key to the success of social insects and leads division labor among colony members. Response thresholds task-specific stimuli are thought proximally regulate behavioral specialization, but their neurobiological regulation complex not well understood. Here, we show that response task-relevant correspond three phenotypes honeybee workers in well-studied important Apis mellifera cerana . Quantitative neuropeptidome comparisons suggest two tachykinin-related peptides (TRP2 TRP3) as candidates for modification these thresholds. Based on our characterization receptor binding downstream signaling, confirm a functional role tachykinin signaling regulating specific responsiveness workers: TRP2 injection RNAi-mediated downregulation cause consistent, opposite effects each behaviorally specialized phenotype unrelated tasks. Thus, study demonstrates TRP regulates degree may control context specificity behavior animals more generally.

The genetic architecture of the behavioral ontogeny of foraging in honeybee workers.
The initiation of foraging during the life course of honeybee workers is of central interest to understanding the division of labor in social insects, a central theme in sociobiology and behavioral research. It also provides one of the most complex phenotypic traits in biological systems because of the interaction of various external, social, and individual factors. This study reports on a comp...

Repeated administration of nicotine causes incentive and behavioral sensitization in animals. Ascorbic acid administration inhibits some effects of nicotine. In the present study, the effect of ascorbic acid administration on nicotine-induced behavioral sensitization in Male Swiss-Webster mice (20-25 g) was investigated. Animals were injected with nicotine (0.25 mg/kg, i.p.) once daily for seve...

متن کاملCheating honeybee workers produce royal offspring.
The Cape bee (Apis mellifera capensis) is unique among honeybees in that workers can lay eggs that instead of developing into males develop into females via thelytokous parthenogenesis. We show that this ability allows workers to compete directly with the queen over the production of new queens. Genetic analyses using microsatellites revealed that 23 out of 39 new queens produced by seven colon...
متن کاملReproduction of honeybee workers is regulated by epidermal growth factor receptor signaling.
Eusocial insect societies display a remarkable reproductive division of labor between a single fertile queen and thousands of largely sterile workers. In most species, however, the workers retain the capacity to reproduce, particularly in queenless colonies where typically many workers lay eggs. As yet, the molecular determinants that initiate this shift in worker fertility are still poorly doc...
